Summary

This position is located in the Office of Environment Office of the Associate Administrator for Environment and Compliance, Maritime Administration (MARAD).

This position is established to assist the Director of Environment and senior environmental staff in the planning, coordinating, and implementation of environmental activities of the Maritime Administration.

Responsibilities

As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will :

  • Provide guidance on the protection of the environment by the prevention, control, and abatement of pollution generated from vessels, port facilities, including Federal facilities such as the National Defense Reserve Fleet.
  • Serve as an Agency liaison to those regulatory agencies with responsibilities related to environmental and worker safety aspects of a broad range of programs and activities supported by the Maritime Administration.
  • Assist with the development of Requests for Proposals, Invitations for Bids, and other documentation that supports Agency goals.
  • Provide policy guidance and interpretation to assure that the jurisdictional responsibilities of other Federal agencies are properly considered in environmental documentation.
  • Participate in the development of standard operating procedures for environmental issues, evaluation of their effectiveness, and production of reports for management review.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in preparing and reviewing NEPA documents related to transportation projects, specifically Deepwater Port projects. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated experience managing NEPA projects under the One Federal Decision umbrella.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Some travel is required.
