Position Overview

The Energy, Extractives, and ESG Manager will be responsible for supporting BSR’s work with companies as part of the Infrastructure and Finance team with a specific focus on Energy & Extractives and general ESG topics.

BSR’s global consulting work with Energy and Extractives companies covers a range of sustainability topics and encompasses a range of work, such as stakeholder and community engagement and development efforts; assessing human rights impacts, risks, and opportunities; sustainability strategy development; developing risk mitigation strategies, policies, and impact management plans; supporting sustainability and human rights reporting; and addressing human rights in the supply chain.

Our broader work on ESG involves collaborating with energy, extractives, infrastructure, finance, and other companies to understand ESG topics, integrate ESG into business strategy, add ESG considerations to investment approaches, respond to rising investor and stakeholder expectations on ESG, and report on them to investors, etc.

Managers work collaboratively across BSR’s industry and practice teams on a range of consulting, grant-funded projects, and collaborative initiatives. Managers ensure exceptional project execution and high-quality engagement with BSR member companies and other partners.

The position is full-time to be based in BSR’s San Francisco or New York office.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management and Implementation: Assume responsibility for implementing consulting and grant-funded projects, which includes overseeing project scope, timeline, deliverable quality and budget; managing clients and project teams; providing subject matter expertise; conducting primary research, including leading stakeholder interviews; utilizing tools; and presenting at and facilitating client meetings.
  • Member and Client Management: Maintain day-to-day client relationships; oversee member relationships; and support member recruitment and business development.​
  • Team management: Lead project teams to effectively execute project objectives, outcomes, and impacts; establish the standards by which the project will be guided, including managing senior team members; and support team members’ learning and skills development.​

Qualifications* *

  • Master’s degree in business, sustainability, or CSR and 7 years of relevant professional experience from a top-tier consulting firm, NGO, or similar role working with, or in, the energy & extractives industry or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proven track record of success in working with business in a client/customer-facing position. Well-developed interpersonal skills for high-level interaction with members and other companies.
  • Experience managing multiple, disparate projects simultaneously.
  • Deep content knowledge and experience in: human rights; environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG); supply chain; sustainable development; and/or community/stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in developing human rights/ESG/sustainability/CSR-related methodologies such as: materiality, strategy, indicator development, reporting, ESG and human rights risk assessment and due diligence.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills. Strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to undertake up to 25% business travel.
