NEIWPCC and the NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program are seeking a full-time Assistant Environmental Analyst to assist in better understanding and characterizing water quality in tributaries and supporting communities undergoing source watershed planning for drinking water protection, with a focus on incorporating environmental justice (EJ) considerations into community planning.
Incumbent will create a spatial baseline understanding of where EJ communities receive their drinking water from and communicate this information with the EJ communities and municipalities where the source water is located, using online and in-person outreach techniques. The incumbent will work with partner agencies more broadly to support source water planning and protection programs. Additional duties will be to help the Estuary Program’s watershed team assess and implement stream restoration projects, as needed, related to riparian restoration and barriers (dams and culverts). The position is located in New Paltz, NY and will require some travel in the Hudson Valley to public venues and field sites.
The successful candidate will hold a degree in environmental science, biology, forestry, chemistry, engineering, or a related field. Proven ability to work and communicate effectively with people from a variety of disciplines, such as scientists, agency staff, educators and the public. Preferred experience/competence includes: diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice topics; database design and ArcGIS skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and field work skills and awareness in navigating outdoor hazards.
