NEIWPCC and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) are seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst to provide technical assistance and program support for the Stream Monitoring and Assessment Section (SMAS), Division of Water, Bureau of Water Assessment and Management at NYSDEC as part of the Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2).
The primary goal of Source Water Protection in New York State is to develop and implement source water protection measures for public water systems throughout the state. NEIWPCC and NYSDEC are seeking an organized and detail- oriented Environmental Analyst to assist in the water quality monitoring and assessment of source waters in NYS streams and rivers. This will include assisting in the monitoring and assessment of priority waterbodies, implemented through the DOW SMAS Rotating Integrated Basin Studies (RIBS) program. This position will also support all elements of the work of SMAS programs which includes but is not limited to: biological monitoring of streams and rivers, collection of field observation and water chemistry data, laboratory sample processing, database development, database maintenance, data analysis, and reporting. The work will have a strong emphasis on attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental biology, environmental science, or related field. Experience using statistical computing software (R), working with water quality data, analysis, and reporting are an advantage, but not required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Access) as well as clear communication and public speaking skills preferred.

This full-time position is based in the NYSDEC office, located at 625 Broadway, Albany, NY. After six months of employment, this position may be eligible for a partial telework schedule, subject to approval and determined by program and office needs.
