Currently, HGL is seeking a Staff Scientist in our Merritt Island, FL office supporting Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Patrick Space Force Base, and NASA Kennedy Space Center.

HGL offers long-term stability for a full-time position open for a Environmental Staff Scientist at our Merritt Island office. HGL was recently awarded a 10-year performance-based Optimization Remediation Contract (ORC) with the Louisville District USACE and Air Force which runs thru 2031 supporting Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Patrick Space Force Base, Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida. HGL is also supporting the NASA Kennedy Space Center with a long-term investigation and remediation contract.


The Staff Scientist position will be responsible for supporting environmental investigation field tasks (sampling, well drilling oversight, etc.); remediation construction services, document prepara tion, and office work under the direction of the project and installation managers for both contracts. Must be a team-oriented person willing to conduct a variety of field assignments and write cohesive report sections on the evaluation of investigative and remediation results.

The position is based out of our Merritt Island office & will require the candidate to be available for some travel.

Required Skills

Must have environmental field investigation experience and prefer remediation experience (in-situ injection experience a plus).

Must be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and other MS Office applications. Proficiency in MS Project and MS Power Point is a plus.

Required Experience

This is a staff level position and requires 3+ years of related work experience. The successful candidate must have experience in the following:

  • performance of field activities
  • experience with environmental site operations
  • monitoring well drilling, logging, and installation
  • environmental sampling
  • knowledge of and experience with RCRA, CERCLA, DoD, DoE, or USEPA projects
  • report writing.

Must demonstrate a history of initiative, motivation and creativity. Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail.

Required Education

The Staff Scientist position requires a minimum of a BA/BS degree in a field related to Environmental Studies such as Geology, Environmental Science, or Environmental Engineering, plus three years of experience. MS is a plus.

Required Qualifications

To perform the duties of this position a person will need to be in good physical health and be able to lift up to 30 pounds in order to perform field tasks. The successful candidate will be required to pass the installation security checks and to possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment.

T ravel, some overtime and moderate physical work will routinely be required.


A pre-hire drug test is required and positions may require a fit for duty baseline physical.

Positions require US Citizenship.

In addition the candidate must be able to obtain AF and NASA security access badges and be COVID vaccinated.
