Position Description

Be a part of a team responsible for leading 10 weeks of half and full-day summer camps for 3-12 year olds, leading tours and field trip programs for all ages, and completing an independent environmental education project throughout the summer.


Start & End Dates: Mid-May (flexible start date) through August 12th, 2023

Pay: Living Allowance of $6,750 (equivalent to $15 per hour) & AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,824.07


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing for and leading 10 weeks of summer camp for 3-12 year olds

  • Assist in recordkeeping and adherence to licensing rules for the Gardens' WI DCF Day Camp License

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and presentation of education priority project

  • Present educational tours and programs to the public

  • Assist with educational events and workshops

  • Develop and deliver environmental education programs for all ages

  • Develop and teach programming for local summer school field trip series

  • Assist with the coordination of volunteers

  • Write 2-3 blogs and assist in social media posting

  • Maintain inventory of educational supplies

  • Provide visitors to the Gardens with information and support

  • Participate in AmeriCorps trainings and meetings

  • Complete and submit AmeriCorps timesheets and reports in a professional and timely manner


Work Hours: 30-40 hours per week, totaling a minimum of 450 hours throughout the summer to fulfill AmeriCorps quarter-time member requirements. Environmental Education Interns typically work 7:30am-4pm Monday-Friday with occasional weekends and evening hours required.

Physical Requirements: Able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, reach, pull, push, sit, grab, lift, and carry (up to 50 lbs.) daily in all weather conditions.
