Communications Associate – San Francisco/Modesto/Sacramento

Salary Range: $53,000 – $63,000 per year

Job Type: Non-Exempt, Full time with benefits

POSITION SUMMARY:

This newly created position within the Development and Communications team will report to the Digital Content Producer. The Communications Associate will join a seasoned, results-oriented 8-person Development and Communications team. This strong team, which approaches development and communications as mutually reinforcing activities, is responsible for raising $5 million + each year to fund our program efforts and leads the organization’s external outreach, content strategy, and visual brand. This cohesive team works in a creative and flexible environment and supports each other on a day-to-day basis. We work to create unique career paths for individuals based on their experience, interests, and organizational needs.

Under the mentorship of the Digital Content Producer, this role will be responsible for working on the organization’s website, social media platforms, and other aspects of our digital presence. Excellent writing skills, design aesthetic, and project management experience will be useful for success in this role. Besides working with the Development and Communications team, there will be plenty of opportunities to collaborate with other program teams. The ideal person for this role will be digitally savvy and very familiar with managing social media.

Location: This position will primarily work out of our San Francisco office but will collaborate with Modesto and Sacramento teams as well. Our teams work in a hybrid work environment with an option to work remotely a few days a week. Periodic travel throughout the state will be required.

Primary Responsibilities

• Update website homepage and project pages on a regular basis, including Leopold Conservation Award materials; upload publications and technical resources; manage digital asset library; stay up to date with search engine optimization (SEO) (search snippets, images, tags); maintain site architecture, and implement accessibility and functionality back-end improvements in partnership with the Communications team.
• Pull, manage, and analyze metrics (site traffic, users, bounce rate, top pages, etc.) on a monthly or as-needed basis, and assist Digital Content Producer with the transition to Google Analytics 4.
• In partnership with managing consultant for Google Ads, implement new campaigns, pull monthly reports, and present metrics to team.
• Format and post blogs as directed, create blog visuals to support the content.
• Schedule daily/weekly social posts, organize platform asset refreshes, implement social advertising campaigns and follow strategies tailored to each social media platform as needed
• Assist and collaborate on newsletters and annual reports with proofreading, organizing assets, and promoting on website and social media.
• Manage outreach to program partners to schedule interviews and track internal deadlines.
• Support California Leopold Conservation Award by polling for and scheduling judging panels, processing applications, assisting with site visits, and assisting with general award coordination
• Tracking calendars, scheduling kick-off meetings, and tracking deliverables and content creators within projects.
• Other projects and tasks as assigned.

Experience and Skills Required

• Excellent writing skills, ability to synthesize complex information into digestible content for various audiences and demonstrated ability to proofread.
• Great communication (verbal, written, and presentation skills) and listening skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills including ability to follow-up appropriately – manage up, out, and down.
• Ability to collaborate across teams, expertise levels, communication styles.
• Experience with social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. with understanding of how each platform works, who it can target, and how to structure and sequence posts for optimal engagement.
• Keen desire to learn about the organization and its work.
• Some project management skills such as scheduling, handling team calendars, calendaring deliverables, and managing cross-team projects.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple overlapping deadlines.
• Experience with Microsoft Office/SharePoint.

Also Desirable

• Digital graphic design, including familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud
• Familiarity with WordPress (trainable).
• Spanish fluency.
