Washington Trails Association (WTA) is the nation’s largest hiking and trail maintenance nonprofit. We have a 50-year legacy of engaging the hiking community to ensure Washington's trails stand the test of time. With more than 27,000 members and an online community of over 300,000 and growing, we are connecting people to the outdoors — from everyday adventures to backcountry explorations. Each year 4,500 WTA volunteers perform over 160,000 hours of trail maintenance across the state. We mobilize hikers as public lands advocates, trail stewards, and on-the-ground experts sharing knowledge with fellow hikers. WTA’s mission-driven staff is at the core of our work. We are seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to support our organization’s staff and culture through the full employment lifecycle. Our ideal candidate will be personable and detail-oriented in maintaining smooth and efficient processes to recruit, train, and retain a highly qualified and diverse community of committed WTA staff. This position is an ideal fit for someone who values relationships and possesses highly developed communication and organization skills.
The Human Resources Coordinator reports to the Senior Human Resources Manager and works closely with managers across the organization and the Business Operations team.
Hiring and Onboarding
Serve as the process owner and main point of contact throughout the recruitment and hiring process for applicants, hiring managers, and HR staff
Oversee the recruitment timeline, including job postings and outreach to attract talented candidates with diverse backgrounds and experience
Facilitate onboarding for new employees to provide a supportive orientation to WTA’s culture, benefits, programs and technology systems
Coordinate employee offboarding processes and ensure seasonal staff departures run smoothly
HR Administration and Record Keeping
Maintain accurate process documentation and employee records, track assets/equipment and support payroll and benefits administration
Maintain accurate risk management and OSHA records; support employee worker’s compensation claims as needed
Support development, implementation and communications of HR policies and procedures
Assist with planning and implementation of professional development and team-building activities
Employee Experience
Support the full employee experience for WTA employees to foster a welcoming, inclusive and productive environment for all employees
Support and promote healthy workplace programs and coordinate and write monthly HR email digest for WTA staff
Serve as a partner for WTA’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) work, ensuring that WTA’s organizational culture is inclusive and welcoming to candidates and employees of all identities

The Human Resources Coordinator is a full-time, non-exempt position based in WTA’s Seattle office and occasionally requires an in-person presence at our remote locations. WTA has a hybrid work model with at least 2 days of work per week in-person at our Seattle office. Vaccination requirements are in place for WTA staff.
Compensation starts at $24.00 - $28.00 per hour, depending on experience. Benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, retirement, disability, transportation, and holiday, vacation and sick leave.
