Project Background:

The Advancing Capacity for the Environment (ACE) program will support USAID’s work in the areas of climate change, environment, energy, and infrastructure work. The ACE program will primarily focus on providing support and services to DAI’s client - the Center for Environment, Energy, and Infrastructure (EEI) within the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Bureau for Development, Democracy, and Innovation (DDI). The program objective is to enhance USAID’s effectiveness, leading to positive and sustainable development outcomes globally in the above sectors through activities under four key tasks areas: communications, training, knowledge management, and facilitation/organizational development. The program will provide these comprehensive services and support across EEI as a collective Center, but also dedicated services and support to each of its three Branches—Climate & Cross- Sectoral Strategy, Natural Environment, and Built Environment—including services and support to each of the separate Divisions within each Branch.

Position Description:

The Communication Specialist will serve as a key member of the communications team to ensure successful implementation of ACE’s communication activities. They will have the following responsibilities under supervision of the Communications Director/DCOP.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of all aspects of the communications strategies of the USAID branches/divisions supported by ACE
  • Support the compilation and drafting of success stories, newsletters, talking points, social media content, presentations and other communications products covering a wide range of environmental themes
  • Work with a range of consultants to develop communications products, including graphic designers, writers, videographers, etc. to ensure high quality visual and written communications products
  • Create, design and produce written and visual communication products, including social media, web-based storytelling, and “learning bites” in close coordination with the Communications Director and other ACE team members
  • Collaborate closely with ACE’s technical teams, including directors and staff of the communications, knowledge management and facilitation/organizational development teams
  • Attend virtual and occasional in person meetings at USAID with technical and communications staff of the branches and divisions served by ACE
  • Apply USAID branding and formatting to reports, presentations, event materials and other publication
  • Closely track communications activities to ensure ACE is delivering products to the client on time and to contribute to ACE’s monitoring and evaluation targets
  • Oversee uploading of final communications products to ACE’s shared drives so that all products can be easily found and shared as requested
  • Demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy to foster an atmosphere of teamwork, productivity, creativity, and innovation
  • Support other communications tasks as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international development, social/political sciences, or other related fields
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in the field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience working on USAID or other donor funded projects is a plus
  • Experience working on environmental projects is a plus
  • US or UK work authorization required

Compensation & Benefits_**

For employees working the United States, the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to be between $60,000 and $80,000. Salary for part-time employees will be prorated based on actual hours worked. Actual offers will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant education, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Eligible U.S. based employees will be able to enroll in medical, dental and vision insurance, plus a 401(k)-retirement plan with a company match. Additionally, employees will be eligible for company-paid annual leave (vacation & holidays), sick leave, and parental leave, as well as short- and long-term disability coverage. Detailed information will be provided at the time a formal offer is extended.

For employees working outside of the United States, compensation and benefits will vary based on location.
