NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst to serve as the coordinator for the Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System (HRECOS), which provides real-time water quality data from monitoring activities in the Hudson River basin to be used by a variety of stakeholders for environmental management, research, educational and recreational needs in the region.
What You’ll Do
As a NEIWPCC Environmental Analyst, you will work with the HRECOS management
team and other Estuary and basin partners to continue to develop the network,
both in the number of stations and in the data products available through the
HRECOS website, and to expand the use and application of the data. You will
also manage HRECOS water quality and meteorological stations, assist in
implementing the Clean Water targets of the Estuary Action Agenda, plan and
lead HRECOS network meetings, conduct site visits, coordinate with NYS
Division of Water, create and manage public-facing products, and manage the
HRECOS supplies and budget in cooperation with other program staff.
What You’ll Bring / Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and
advancing water quality. Ideally the candidate will have a degree in
oceanography, geology, atmospheric sciences, environmental chemistry,
environmental science, biology, aquatic ecology, or engineering, or related
field; knowledge of and experience with water quality monitoring, Quality
Assurance/Quality Control procedures, and diagnosing and repairing simple
electrical and mechanical problems with equipment. Ability to work effectively
with people from a variety of disciplines, such as scientists, staff, and the
non-scientific public is desired. Experience developing or implementing
monitoring and/or observing systems, and data management using R, Microsoft
Access and Microsoft Excel is preferred. Candidates with alternative
qualifications or who have taken a less traditional career path may be
considered if an aptitude for success and a strong willingness to learn is
clearly apparent.
Logistics
This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based at
the Norrie Point Environmental Center in Staatsburg, NY. Duties will be
performed in an office setting and in outdoor field conditions. Ability to
work outdoors in all types of weather and travel over rough terrain and water
is required. Occasional travel is required, for which a valid driver’s license
and private means of transportation is required. After six months of
employment, this position may be eligible for a partial telework schedule for
office-based duties, subject to approval and determined by program and office
needs. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.

Salary
Anticipated annual salary range is $55,000 to $75,000.
