NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst to serve as the regional coordinator for the Long Island Sound Study (LISS), assisting with the planning and implementation of activities and projects to restore and protect the water quality of the Long Island Sound.
What You’ll Do
As a NEIWPCC Environmental Analyst, you will work alongside internal and
external partners and act in a coordinator capacity for water quality and
nitrogen reduction activities and projects. You will assist in the planning
and execution of activities and projects NYSDEC DOW participates in through
the LISS. You will participate in workgroups and meetings; participate in TMDL
implementation; assist with the implementation of the LISS Comprehensive
Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) nitrogen reduction plans and measures;
provide technical support to and participate in the stakeholder group for
EPA’s LIS Nitrogen Reduction Strategy; and provide grant oversight and
management. You will also build partnerships with and assist municipalities in
evaluating and assessing local policies and programs to determine how they
align with the CCMP, and you’ll assist with the implementation of the
Communications, Outreach, and Engagement plan as a liaison to Long Island
communities.
What You’ll Bring / Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and
advancing water quality. Ideally the candidate will have a degree in
environmental sciences, natural science, earth science, biology, chemistry, or
related field preferred; knowledge and experience with grant writing and
management, project management and budget oversight, and a broad range of
issues related to watershed management, nonpoint source pollution, and water
quality monitoring; experience working cooperatively with a broad range of
stakeholders and the ability to facilitate and present at large meetings to a
variety of audiences. Understanding of federal and state environmental laws
and regulations related to the Long Island Sound as well as basic knowledge of
GIS is a plus. Candidates with alternative qualifications or who have taken a
less traditional career path may be considered if an aptitude for success and
a strong willingness to learn is clearly apparent.
Logistics
This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in
Stony Brook, NY. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting and
will require some travel, for which a valid driver’s license and private means
of transportation is required. After six months of employment, this position
may be eligible for a partial telework schedule for office-based duties,
subject to approval and determined by program and office needs. Proof of
COVID-19 vaccination required.

Salary
Anticipated annual salary range is $55,000 to $70,000.
